ESCMID Workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Medical Microbiology Diagnostics

I served as an instructor at this hybrid ESCMID workshop, which brought together more than 150 participants from medical microbiology, infectious diseases, and data science. The course combined expert lectures and practical sessions on applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to routine microbiological diagnostics.
I delivered a session on model selection for medical microbiology, covering how to frame a research question, assess different microbiological data modalities, choose between classical machine learning and deep learning, establish appropriate baselines, and account for interpretability in clinical applications.
